| | | Mediterranean gull? This seagull was walking and feeding amongst the common gulls in Pearson Park. I took the photo because I thought it was a black-headed gull (I never see this species in the park, it prefers shopping streets), but when I looked at the photo it seemed a bit weird. Is is a Mediterranean gull? Are they common at this time of year?

| | | Re: Mediterranean gull? It does seem to have that much more squinty-eyed look of the mediterranean gull, and a broader beak.
Did it make any noise?
EDIT: Were the wings that white, or was that just because of the lighting and the camera?

| | | Re: Mediterranean gull? Yes its med Gull. The white wing tips are a good way of telling the two (adults) apart. |

| | | Re: Mediterranean gull? Cheers G Hunt 2. I feel a bit silly, as I only realised it was something different when looking at the photo. I will pop in tomorrow and see it it's still there. Today we also had a mandarin female. It is usually not so exciting birdwatching in Pearson Park!

| | | Re: Mediterranean gull? It looks like a Black-headed Gull not a Med .......
The bill isn't stout enough or red enough .........
The hood is far to big ...
And the image is over-exposed and has blown the whites which has also done the primary tips to white ?
But i stand to be corrected...

| | | Re: Mediterranean gull? I'd say it's an adult Mediterranean Gull moulting into summer plumage; if anyone wants to see one, try Great Yarmouth seafront
Couldn't be easier; there's rumoured to be 30+ there in winter (probably all year as well) and they'll come to take bread with the other gulls & Feral Pigeons | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
