Goldeneye please

Hi all.
just need confirmation that this is a Goldeneye duck. I'm 90% sure it is but they are not a duck I've seen that often let alone in flight so need to be sure.

It looks like the male Goldeneye to me Roger, someone with more knowledge will probably be along in a minute to confirm.

It certainly is Roger.
Whisby is good for these at the moment.There's quite a large group of them close to the two hides, I managed to get a few shots of them displaying, a sight that's always worth seeing.

absolutely no question it's a Goldeneye: interesting to see the white secondaries from below - from above the coverts make that white area even bigger and more distinctive (extending almost to the leading edge) - the rest of the wing looks very dark from below

No doubt about it!... Male goldeneye!

The white cheek patch is very distinctive, makes separating it from Tufted Duck very easy at a distance.

Well that's settled, Goldeneye it is. Will have to get over to Whisby Graham, if the weather ever improves.
