| | Is there a map of Heronies in UK? I live near Alice Holt Forest in NE Hants (See Alice Holt Forest Hampshire - Home Page ) where thre are loads of herons including a semi-tame flock which hangs out at Birdworld to get fed by the zoo staff along with the penguins etc.
But I've no idea where they nest. Usually they seem to share a rookery don't they? But there's no herons' nests in the Rookery at Bentley railway station.
Heronries generally go on for decades, rather than relocate frequently...so Any help with pinpointing this?

Possibly it's the only site in the UK where they do this, as I haven't heard of this elsewhere. |

| | | Re: Is there a map of Heronies in UK? I visited a local Herony today, wonderful sight. How on earth do two birds balance on their nest so high up.
A local lady came out and told me that they make such a noise late at night it scares her.
I'll visit again when there are young around. |

| | | Re: Is there a map of Heronies in UK? There's a Heronry on the outskirts of Boat of Garten, I was there today, there are a few Herons starting to arrive. It's amazing to see them all in the tree tops, they look like they would be too big for the top branches to hold.
When I saw them last year, I was surprised at the size of some of the sticks they were using to repair the nests, they were almost bigger than the Herons. |

UKWILDIFEO I'll take a look...I knew there had to be one somewhere around. I'm gonna keep my eyes peeled too on the off chance there are Little Egrets: they turn up in the Wey between Farnham and Alton every winter and I've seen them in the summer too around Holt Pound and Wrecclesham. Who knows? |
