Starlings at Leighton Moss

Had a meeting in the South Lakes today which finished mid-afternoon so I took the opportunity to call in at Leighton Moss on the way back home to try and catch the starlings coming into roost.

They were certainly performing well:

Brilliant Rob great photo's of a spectactular site.

I was watching the local Starling gang tonight just outside my house, i love watching them.

Fantastic - I know how pleased this spectacle will have made you - funnily enough we were nearly there evening till things started going wrong here - how I wish we had still set off for the caravan and turned up at dusk to see this........... Fantastic photos Rob!

Thanks for the comments guys - it is certainly one of my favourite wildlife spectacles, an elegant arial ballet. I think the best bit is when they finally all pour themselves down into the reed-bed and just simply disappear. Unfortunately I can't ever see a way of catching that bit in a photo, it happens so quickly and always seems to be against a dark background, as it's getting dark so you'd lose the birds on a photo. Still it was a great way to end the day.
