| | | Little Egret in Derbyshire I went for a walk with my friend matt today we went to Linacre Res. and saw 4-5 Goosanders 3-4 Males and 1 Female? (1 more to add to my bird list) and a Pochard and a great view of a what I think was a Great-spotted Woodpecker (Can't tell the difference between Great and Lesser-spotted Woodpeckers). That was the first part of the day.
Then we went to a pub in Ashover and by a river I saw a Little Egret I was amazed to see one this far inland. Is this unusual and should I report it to whoever BTO, RSPB? |

| | | Re: Little Egret in Derbyshire Little egrets are slowly moving North, they certainly aren't common inland, if you know the country bird recorder's details he/she might be interested.
If they continue to increase at ther present rate, it's likely that in a few years time they might be common up there.
It looks as if Cattle Egrets are moving into the South Coast now! |

| | | Re: Little Egret in Derbyshire Hi
they have one or two regularly at Ogston reservoir, so it's not uncommon to find them inland.

You will once you've seen a Lesser - they're about the size of a sparrow!

| | | Re: Little Egret in Derbyshire I take that it was a Great-spotted Woodpecker then. Plus what is the status of the Goosander. |

Goosanders are quite widespread in winter and I'm sure they breed in the Bakewell area.
