| | | Birds You Wish To See A comment in the bullfinch thread got me thinking .. are there any birds that others have seen that you never have and would love to?
I've never seen a goldcrest and would absolutely love too. Also a long tailed tit and a redpoll would be nice Oooh and a siskin and a serin .. a brambling and hawfinch would be nice too! Let's just say I'm open to all new bird visiters!

| | | Re: Birds You Wish To See It's always the way isn't it?
There was a hobby perched on the fence at the end of our garden last night and I was too horrified at the thought of what it might be up too, to truly appreciate it!

| | | Re: Birds You Wish To See Had good view of Hawfinch from a hide this spring on a trip to Nags Head RSPB reserve. Place I used to go for them in winter was Bedgebury Arboretum, Kent where there's a small roost + if you're lucky you might also see Crossbills + Brambling. If you still don't see them, go to eastern Europe where they are common + seem less elusive. When I was in Poland Hawfinch was second most frequently seen finch after Chaffinch.
In about 10 days I'm off to look for cetaceans/seabirds across Biscay so hope for many Cory's + Great Shearwaters + Sabine's Gull- not new for me, but exciting nonetheless. A lifer would be a big rarity such as Fea's Petrel. |

| | | Re: Birds You Wish To See I see a few Hawfinches now & then in the New Forest, Not so much rare as elusive. Black Water arboretum is a garunteed place to see them rosting here in the winter. Also plenty of Crossbills around now & even more in winter with Redpolls etc. Usually see Bulfinches when I'm out. |
