| | | Some advice.. Just wanted to check with you guys, i was out and about in bedfordshire today, and say this at the RSPB Lodge in Sandy. Which i belive is a Buzzard.
I then made my way to a local nature reserve from where i took this. at what seems at first glace to be a buzzard, but the patten on the wings, and the wing tips seem slighly different?
Would also like to add i saw my first Goldeneye while at the reserve aswell. not a big thing i know, but still a first. |

It has dark belly, carpal patch, wing tips, trailing edge and tail band. |

It has dark belly, carpal patch, wing tips, trailing edge and tail band. | Just checked the book Collins Complete British Birds and compared the two pics and going by what you suggest it does look like the Rough Legged Buzzard

| | | Re: Some advice.. I'd say both of these birds are Common Buzzards, they show a lot of variation in their plumage and the birds in your photos are well within that range of variation.

| | | Re: Some advice.. I wouldn't disagree with Common Buzzard - I know how variable their plumage is. I only put forward Rough-legged as a discussion point as I have limited experience of them (I have only seen 2 and they were a few years ago) and wanted to be sure. There were enough similarities with RL to put a doubt in my mind, and I find that people study photos more if there is a discussion going on. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
