| | | Re: Spring Summer Feeding I feed all year - sunflower hearts and peanuts. From now on it is important to make sure birds can't get whole peanuts as they could cause choking if fed to youngsters. Also a supply of fresh water is good - although I have a pond I still top up a bird bath. |

| | | Re: Spring Summer Feeding Hi Chukie
I have fed the birds all year round for over 20 years.I always felt it was cruel to stop but that is only my opinion.
The sultanas are soaked overnight from now until late September.Peanut granules or split nuts are put out, never whole.
Sunflower hearts are my main feed and i give them those all year round.
We don't have a pond but do have 5 baths which i really think is crucial so that they can drink and bathe. So important, all year round. |

| | | Re: Spring Summer Feeding I too feed all year. It isn't always easy for the birds to feed their chicks and themselves, and many of the tired adults seem very glad of the food I put out. They bring their fledglings down as well once they are big enough to feed them from my feeders. Great fun
Like others, I don't put whole peanuts out in the spring and summer and I usually add more mealworms to the mix. The tits seem particularly attracted to the fat blocks when they are raising chicks. |

| | | Re: Spring Summer Feeding i stop making fat cake in the summer as it makes an awful mess when it melts in the sunshine but i still put out the ingredients that would have gone into the fat cakes,as for the nuts i crush mine in a mortice and pessel even in the winter |

| | | Re: Spring Summer Feeding I feed all year round! I have noticed as has Smartie that the Tits seem attracted to the fat blocks when raising chicks, so I will continue with the fat blocks! Otherwise the usual Sunflower hearts, niger seed, mixed seed, peanuts in a feeder! Soaked sultanas and crumbled scones are always enjoyed whatever the time of year! | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
