| | | Night Calling Bird Just heard a bird calling for the first time in 3 months or so (11.30pm here), previously heard it several times before.
The noise it makes is like a high pitched EEEEEEEEEk EEEEEEEEEk lasts about 2 seconds and it does this several times.
Sorry about the naff description but can anybody suggest any ideas for what bird it could be, i can then google to see if I can identify the caller. |

| | | Re: Night Calling Bird Hi feathered-friend, do you have owls out there, the nearest I would guess is a Barn Owl but don't know if they are in France. |

| | | Re: Night Calling Bird Thanks Phoebe and Natureguy, just checked out some Owl calls.
I don't think it was quite as screechy as the Barn Owl (they are in France), but on the same web site I heard some others and think it was more like a little owl.
I'll check again the next time I hear it. Cheers.
Hey it would be good if this website had bird calls / songs |

The RSPB website has a section on bird calls. I've played the robin recording out of the window before now and it nearly sent one of my robins batty as he tried to find the source in nearby trees.
If you use the link below and click on the bird you want to hear, there is a sound recording at the top of the page. The RSPB: Birds by name |

| | | Re: Night Calling Bird I can't 'elp you with the bird call except that it reminded me of the spring call of the oystercatcher I hear on the rivers here and to avoid me making a fool of myself, located Picardie on Google Earth to find out how far it was from the coast!
There's a great looking vegetated wet corridor running to the west of the D935 with hundreds of what might have been gravel pits. I can hear the Oriels now! | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
