| | | Feeding post I was walking past an old stone gatepost halfway up our farm track today, when I noticed loads of empty seed husks scattered on top of it and around it. It was about 30 metres from our garden, which has a very similar selection of bird seed to the husks I found. Is this a bird carrying away the seed to eat it? And if so, what are the potential culprits? (I may hide and watch one day, but it would be interesting to see if people's predictions are right)

| | | Re: Feeding post Hee hee - good idea.
All I know is the Coal Tits do this in my garden - they never stay at the feeder, but fly some distance to eat the seeds.
But I feel this would be too exposed a situation for a member of that particular species.
I am intrigued now.

| | | Re: Feeding post Are there any other houses in view of the post? do you think someone could be using the top of the post as a bird table? there was a thread on here a few weeks ago about people feeding birds while out walking. keep an eye on the local ramblers/dog walkers. |

| | | Re: Feeding post There's one house next door, but I don't think they're mad about birds (and have enough space to put up a birdtable in their garden.) As for walkers, the post is about halfway down our track, and the track doesn't lead anywhere good for walking. It's fairly out of sight, too, so I doubt it's them.
Went to look for about half an hour, but I couldn't find my camouflage net, so I must've been too conspicuous. When I get new batteries for my camera trap, perhaps I can use that.
