I presume the left bird is a standard snipe, but the bird on the right looks alot smaller and has slightly different feather detail is this a jack snipe?
The edge of a group of small ponds and mashland.
I can crop the image further if needed.

The whole look of a Jack Snipe is quite different to a Snipe......well spotted!! |

| | | Re: Two Snipe on for ID Ive seen alot of Snipe lately but never a jack snipe. So then comes the question is this normal behaviour for the two to be together. Three snipe flew in the third I lost amoungst the gulls, these two stayed together though. Thanks for th replies. |

| | | Re: Two Snipe on for ID When disturbed, jack snipe do not tend to fly far and usually land within a short distance if there's cover e.g. rushes.
Snipe are away very quickly and can gain a lot of height before dissapearing out of sight. That's my experience of them when out on the marsh. |
