| | | Dawn Chorus Can anyone explain to me why some mornings all the birds in the world seem to be singing from the crack(or even just before!)of dawn!
This morning it was fantastic here, even the song thrush was vocal before it was really light!
I know the weather is mild today, but it has been for a few days here so why were they all up early today??
Is there something else that triggers the chorus off?

| | | Re: Dawn Chorus It's generally the males that sings and they are either advertising for a mate or singing to ward of other males. One of the reasons we hear it better on certain days is that they sing most often when the weather is placid with little wind and that is usually at first light.

| | | Re: Dawn Chorus Agree with ron1863 - breeding season almost upon us, territories to defend and mates to find (sounds like hard work - glad we're human in a way!!) |

| | | Re: Dawn Chorus Strange you should post this. I was awake at 4am and could not believe the Dawn chorus this morning, it was amazing, so amazing I am going to set my clock tomorrow just to hear it again.
It is like the world is awakening again. |

| | | Re: Dawn Chorus I was chuffed to hear the chorus of a song thrush this morning also.
He has been around quite a bit over the last couple of weeks, first time i have seen one around my area! But this morning he had decided to start singing, hopefully that means he will be staying around.. fingers crossed.
I could certainly get use to hearing that every morning. |

| | | Re: Dawn Chorus Yes, it was fantastic this morning - I was almost deafened by one Robin in particular
I think they've been bursting to get going for a few weeks, but have been forced to wait for a mild and calm spell, like at present.

| | | Re: Dawn Chorus I'm definitely going to get myself up really early this weekend and sit on those woods and listen
Breeding season is indeed a-coming, Last week I saw coots, mallards, blackbirds and blue tits.... all either checking out nest sites, scrapping over territory or looking like they're getting it on
