| | | Feeding the Ducks OK, not very wild I'll admit but they need their food...
A fine collection of Domestic Mankiness I'm sure you'll agree. There were a few wild birds, some Pochard, Tufted Ducks and the ubiquitous Black-headed Gulls of course.
Ooh err, I think I'm being followed: |

| | | Re: Feeding the Ducks Good on you, Robin!
I also go to my local park and feed the wildfowl! I went the other day and it was manic! They are so hungry poor mites!
Plenty of folk feed them on the 'nice sunny days' but seem to forget them when food is most needed, ie: when the water is frozen over!
Keep up the good work. By the way, I like your stalker! |

| | | Re: Feeding the Ducks Ace! Great pictures. What are the birds next to the geese?
I know I'm a total wuss, but sometimes I get quite nervous when I'm around geese, the big white ones like the ones in your photo, especially hungry ones! Canada geese are OK, but the white ones are just so fearsome and intimidating. I'm scared to walk past a particular stretch of canal near where my parents live, cos the geese rule the school and hiss at anyone who passes by.
While I'm owning up to being a big scaredy-cat, the squirrels in Kelvingrove Park and the Botanic Gardens in Glasgow are so used to people feeding them that they'll come right up to you and even put their paws on your leg sometimes, and they won't run away even if you wave your arms about and shout at them, it's really unnerving. You do get some strange looks from people on a sunny day in the park when you're shouting at an impudent squirrel and flailing about like you're trying to communicate with it in semaphore...

| | | Re: Feeding the Ducks I had the lot today...
Coots
Mallards
Pigeons
Canada Geese
Grelyag goose (1)
Domestic White Geese
Moorhens
Domestic Pigeon
Black-headed Gull
Common Gull
Muscovy Ducks
Mute Swans
Also a few wildies that didn't join in...
Common Gull
Pochard
Tufted Duck
Carrion Crow
At one stage I was walking down the path followed by a line of geese, felt like an avian Pied Piper! Also a school party arrived just as I was leaving, each small child carrying a bag of bread, I didn't like to stay and see what mayhem ensued! |

| | | Re: Feeding the Ducks We have a pair of Mallards who are regular visitors to our garden and we used to throw crusts etc out for them but I decided to get some duck feed for them - a waste of money as they won't touch it, the crows love it though.
