| | | Cuckoo in February! As I was topping up the feeders today I heard a Cuckoo, I could hardly believe my ears! I had to listen hard to check and yes it was a Cuckoo  Has anyone else heard a Cuckoo so early? |

Early in the season.. | It wasn't a Collared Dove Kayleigh I have a pair in one of my trees they sound different. It was definitely a Cuckoo! |

Yep!...i realise my sighting (hearing) was way way early and ill allow a tinsy slight allowance for error but i know my birds and im convinced...a good 95% it was deffo cuckoo....i sat telling myself , trying to make it be a collared dove and i couldnt...it was a cuckoo, i remember spitting toothpaste out all over my mirror too!

Early in the season.. | Agree with Kayleigh - Cuckoos winter in tropical Africa and, as far as i'm aware, no wintering records exist in the UK. Collared Dove can make almost identical cuckoo sounds. Woodpigeons can also make a cuckoo type sound. I've heard Starlings not doing a bad imitation too!
The earliest ever Cuckoo on record is April 18 in 1843! They start to arrive normally during the last week of April until first week of May.
