It's nice to see the Northamptonshire population doing so well...I didn't realise they'd done a reintroduction there as well until I saw lots flying around on a trip to the Kettering area last December!
I find the wing tags absolutely fascinating...there's an explanation of what they mean here: Red Kite wing tags explained
Most of the ones I've photographed have black tags on their left wings, so they're Welsh born and bred! |

A warm welcome to you, Bunny!
It is great to read of how the Red Kites range is expanding so much! Hope I get one over my garden this year, save me a journey to Wales! Oh I don't know though, a good excuse for a weekend away! |

| | | Re: Red Kites I'd still make time for a trip to Wales, just to watch them at the Gigrin Farm feeding station. It's definitely the place to see them at their best, and in very large numbers at close quarters. The whole area is absolutely stunning, and great for a weekend trip. There were over 200 kites when I went last week.
I'm lucky enough to live just over an hour from Gigrin so I go up there a fair bit!. |

There were and always are plenty over Wycombe. Yesterday I watched 2 playing over the motorway above my work as I walked between the buildings with a couple of mates egging them on from a higher altitude.
I often see kites casing out the gardens along London Road here. |

| | | Re: Red Kites I love Kites. As I sit here writing this now, I can see two gliding overhead calling. They truly are amazing - not a day goes by when I don't see them. They seem to be doing really well here in Northamptonshire. There's a place you can go and see them roost at dusk on a summers evening. They literally flock to this site - last year I think we saw 50 or 60 gather for their nights sleep.
Just need to get one in the garden now - no luck with the chicken carcass yet!! |

| | | Re: Red Kites Many thanks to Ruth Daniel and Pam_M for the warm welcome.
As I was working from home today I had my camera at the ready but unfortunately didn't see any. Bah! It was a very quiet day on the feeder so I'm thinking they were around but being inconspicuous to us humans! | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
