I'm only a novice photographer, so forgive the photos, but I think its pretty obvious what it is!! (If the photos don't tell you, then the title will give it away!!)

They are fine shot Alison, as you say, you are a novice and will improve with practice.
You are also lucky in actually seeing them instead of hearing them every night.

Well done alisonclair! It's always difficult to capture birds in flight.

It's always a thrill to see a Barn Owl hunting, too.

A good effort Alison - as Pete says flight shots can be tricky.

Still, in Woodnewton you should be able to get plenty of practice with Red Kites

Aah yes, Red Kites - my boyfriend has literally hundreds of photos!! They are here every day. I keep putting chicken carcasses in the garden and up my allotment trying to get them to come down. So far, no luck, although they do circle!!

Just has a look at your website Jeff. Beautiful pictures. May be interested in buying one of a kingfisher for my mum. She loves them.

Novice or not, you have captured the essence of a barn owl hunting - such beautiful birds and hard to photo in flight.Well done and keep at it!!

I know what you mean Alison - I've spent many hours over the last two winters sat in my portable dome hide on some of the field/woodland edges in your part of the world waiting for them to come down for roadkill I've put out for them but so far no luck, though as you say with them circling above (and doubtless coming down once I've left the site!)
