Barquar | That's probably the best way so they get to know where it is and he can see if it is being eaten. Can't walk every day (work and children take over my life) so don't have a dog, sadly.
Thanks all, am reasured I'm not going to be poisoning anything or taking birds away from their regular supply of foodstuff. |

| | | Re: Feeding birds while out and about We've been feeding the birds at our local park.
There's one or two bird tables around in the woods, and people often keep them filled. We tend to buy the bulk and cheap wild bird seed, and take a little bag full each time I'm there.
This past month we've also been buying the cheapest Tesco pre-grated cheese, and mixing some in with it too.
We do buy the family of Swans the propper food though, It's not so good to just dump half a loaf of bread in the water like most folks do.
It's very rewarding to feel you're giving wildlife a helping hand. |

I loved feeding the birds at the village pond or river, and like you all, I had a big sack of bird food to share out, which has recently run out. I'm trying out different sources now - pet shops, nature reserve shops, home-made, to see what works before going for a bulk buy.
Cheese? That's a good idea instead of the suet fat! The kids can grate it though, not buying 'millionaire's cheese' for the birdies!
It's interesting that most people on the forum seem to have great success with cheaper bird seed mixes. I've been wondering if it is worth buying the more expensive 'name' brands. |
