| | | Nest Box ID! Just had a thought - some of you very knowledgeable people on here will probably be able to answer a question that has been puzzling me for a while ...
In the fields near us (flat East Yorkshire) I can see a large nestbox fastened to a tree in one of the many hedge/tree rows around the place. The front and back are made from triangular shaped wood - I can't get close but guess each side of the triangle is about 18" and the hole at the top of the triangle is probably about 4" wide. What could it be for? There are owl nesting boxes by the canal and I have seen a barn owl flying out of one of these, but they are like little sheds on a tall pole. Could the one on the tree be for a tawny? |

| | | Re: Nest Box ID! Sounds like a barn owl box as well to me. They'l use ones one trees and on poles. They take to boxes quite readily and the boxes are as valuable for roosting barn owls too esp in the winter.
Purpose built tawny boxes tend to be a regtangle strapped to a trunk or large branch. |

| | | Re: Nest Box ID! They will be for Barn owls - the triangle design is specifically to keep them and the birds as dry as possible.
Nice that they are used too - we are trying to get Barns into our area from wildlife corridors using these - The Pennine Edge Barn Owl Group.
One day!
Cheers
