| | | Nest box to let but no takers For the past six years I have placed a nestbox in a tree hoping for some tenants.
The hole is about 35mm across, it is 12 feet above the ground on a medium sized conifer.
It is well protected and concealed and faces West.
Several birds, mainly Blue and Great tits have shown an interest but it has never been used.
Any Tips?

| | | Re: Nest box to let but no takers I think 35 mm is a little large. Off the top of my head, I think the diameter should be 28 mm for a Great Tit and less for a Blue Tit, but someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

General guidance suggests 28mm for Blue Tit and 32mm for Great Tit, if you thinbk too large a hole is a problem you can reduce the hole by attaching a hole protector over top.
You can buy a pair of 28mm and 32mm hole protectors for £2.99 from Garden Nature. See link Gardenature - Bird box and wildlife cameras and accessories.> Main Section > Camera System Accessories

| | | Re: Nest box to let but no takers Most birds also require a clear flight path to the nest box so it can see around and also nest boxes ideally should face between north and east. Chances are if it hasn't been suitable for 6 years you may need to consider repositioning it.
