| | | Feeding birds, what not to buy. I recently bought a pack of '3 Fat Rings' (no jokes please) by a company called " natures treat "
The Birds have not touched them. |

| | | Re: Feeding birds, what not to buy. I bought 60 fat balls for just 10 euros here, cheap enough, the birds had probs cos of the cold weather the balls were frozen, but now its warmer they eat them with gusto. and if they are new feed stations give it time they will soon get used to feeding there. |

| | | Re: Feeding birds, what not to buy. Yes, I see you are all saying "give it time" and I can see the point of that.
However, this a 'ring' and not a 'ball' and just seems to have black sunflower seeds in it.
Also, I made a 'fatball' myself in a yoghurt pot, which contained, dripping, bird seed, nuts and raisins and cheese. However, as soon as I hung it upside down, it fell out, ho ho.
I placed half in the tree and left half on the floor, next day, both were pretty much gone.
After a few days, the fat ring had fallen off the tree so I left it on the floor. the birds continue to eat all that I put out, but still dont bother with the fat ring ? |

| | | Re: Feeding birds, what not to buy. Probably it's totally xexexexe then
I only recently started hanging fat balls outside and the tits are all over them, we now have several hanging at one time. I have not had a go at making my own and as the shop ones are so cheap I don't see the point.

| | | Re: Feeding birds, what not to buy. Might be rubbish and the birds hate it, doubt it though. It could be suet based and therefor too hard but my home made high concentrate fat calls are very hard atm and all it does is make the birds even more determined to get into it..
Have you any other food there for the birds to compare it too ? Are there many birds at all??
Might be worth smashing it up or stamping on it to break up. But if no birds then it may take a wee while. |
