| | | Pipits and Redwings? Do these birds flock together? I took some photos today of birds I have not seen here before. At first looking through the binos I thought it was a Meadow Pipit then half an hour later a flock of about 12 birds landed in the same tree. On looking at the photos I think they look like Redwings but some look lik Pipits... the photos are not too clear as they are quite far away and I had to use full zoom and then crop the pics. I will post the pics tomorrow as it's too late for me now. Any help much appreciated.
BTW if some are Pipits it's a first for me! |

| | | Re: Pipits and Redwings? The 2 in your first image are definitely Redwings Phoebe.....you can just make out the crimson underwing and the cream eyebrow.
I can't see the others clearly enough to ID a Pipit tho....sorry! |

But the one on its own I saw first through the bins and definitely saw no red underwing and kind of ID-d it as a Pipit poss Meadow. I need to fiddle with the camera, they are still new to me, can't figure out how to manual focus - it's not a DSLR

Reason: BTW I saw them fly off and they were a bit jerky in flight like a GSW!

| | | Re: Pipits and Redwings? I can only see Redwings in all the pics, the red underwing is not always obvious, the best pointer is the creamy supercilium (eyebrow stripe). | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
