| | | Ground Feeders I've just bought myself a ground feeder with one of those mesh 'Guardians' to protect the top as we get a lot of Rooks/Jackdaws who tend to clear up anything I put out within minutes of me going back indoors. I was talking to a friend today who has had one in the past and he said that virtually nothing would venture in even after a few weeks.
Has anyone else had any good/bad experiences with these 'Guardians'? Without something like this the poor ground feeders get left out! The Robin has taken to visitng the Nyger feeder because he can't get a look in on the ground.
Best wishes,
Matt. |

| | | Re: Ground Feeders I have a ground feeder tray with a guardian.
I have the larger hole sized one that keeps out pigeons and crows but lets in blackbirds (and squirrels )
I find it gets used by the robin, dunnock and blackbirds, but the chaffinches and songthrushes won't go near it.
I've even had a GS woodpecker go in there once when it was snowing |

| | | Re: Ground Feeders I don't really need a ground feeder. From observing the birds feeding I have noticed that the tits and other birds that use the feeders and fat balls generally spill a large amount on the ground where the Robins, Dunnocks, Blackbirds etc. clean it up.
