| | | Sparrow Hawk Just watching 2 Goldfinches settle on the new feeder we put up on Sat , bout 3/4 metres from back door , within 5 secs they lifted rapidly off as a Sparrowhawk decended on them .
He missed and perched on fence post a closeby , went for the camera and of course he was gone when I returned .
Fantastic looking bird and I felt a bit sorry for him , but theres plenty of birds about for him to hone his skills on.
Left the camera on tripod at back door in readiness. |

| | | Re: Sparrow Hawk hello,
i have a regular visit from a beautiful male sparrowhawk who is fantastic at missing his target. Although if your visitor is anything like mine he will be back. Hope you get chance of a picture.

| | | Re: Sparrow Hawk We get a Sparrowhawk trying to get the small birds occasionally but I have only ever seen it succeed a couple of times. Must be very frustrating for it, but it obviously makes enough catches elsewhere to survive.

| | | Re: Sparrow Hawk They roost in the woodland across the road from our House, quite often see them flying over on the lookout for prey. On one occasion one descended at quite a pace and took out an unwitting House Sparrow, then proceeded to devour it on the lawn. Unfortunately at the time I hadn't got the camera but it was quite a spectacle to see it happening!
