Normally, the advice is to remove all the feeders, disinfect the area and refrain from feeding for two weeks. Along with this, keep a close eye on the other birds for symptoms like diseased feet, runny eyes, lethargy .... if you see any more sick birds, I'm afraid removing all the feeders for a few weeks will be the only way to prevent the disease spreading through the local population. Sparrowhawk are also able to spread the disease by preying on sick finches.
Finches will be even more susceptible this time of year as many will be run down from lack of food and the cold, as well as congregating at artificial feeding stations.  | | | |
