Big chance to see everyones tally!
But like all birders lists, you need to decide what can and cant go on a list - introduced and captive, like black swan or not!!!!!
British list birds only?
All world list?
TV list?
and so it goes on!
Birders, eh?
I might even get round to trying to count mine.

| | | Re: how many species? I've never ever kept a list, always been much more of a laid back enjoying birds kinda guy.
However, I am becoming much more interested in bird stats and trends, rise and decline these days. I think I'd like to at least be able to chart the visitors to my garden over the coming years, especially seeing as I've done so much to it.
So, starting Jan 01 2009 I am going to keep a list of everything I see!
Some people I know have lists near the 300 mark!
Insane, I guess mine will be a smaller list, but I don't really twitch that much and mainly keep in the midlands so..

| | | Re: how many species? I've never made a list before but decided I would this year. It's currently standing at 34 - mainly the obvious garden birds. I'm not a twitcher either and can't go dashing off after rarities at the beep of a pager so I would be surprised if my total went over 100 by the end of the year.

| | | Re: how many species? I stopped counting/listing in 1981 (apart from birds seen in/from the garden - currently standing at 72)!
In my view there's far too much made of counting, ticking, listing etc amongst birders, with year lists, life lists, county lists and what have you -just go out and enjoy what you see
But, each to their own and if such paperwork adds to your enjoyment, then why not | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
