| | | Cold Bath The temperature read -2C and yet this pair of Redwings were quite happy to have a bath/shower in our pond waterfall.
We've been keeping the pump running over the winter for both the birds and the fish but it's still icy cold!! |

| | | Re: Cold Bath Hi Astra, nice pics.It is great that you have a steady supply of water as sometimes it is more important than food. The Starlings can empty one of my bird baths in seconds because they still have to bathe to keep their coats in fine condition. |

| | | Re: Cold Bath Hi Astra,
Love your pics of the Redwings! I also have a fish pond and like yourself keep the pump running throughout they year! I was only thinking this morning that the birds benefit as well as the fish from the running water! At least it doesn't completely freeze like the bird baths. Mine is somewhat hidden from my view from the house as it is set slightly under conifers! This does help in the colder weather though as it protects the waterfall somewhat! |

| | | Re: Cold Bath We too keep the pump running and it's had our usual birds bathing and drinking on the tiers. Blackbirds, robins, thrush, tits etc. However, would make my day to see a redwing there. Lovely pics.

Yes it was a real treat to see the redwings there today, they were even fighting off the starlings for the best washing facilities
I do have another more traditional stone birdbath in the garden but as fast as I am with the kettle of warm water it freezes over again so the waterfall has been great this winter. |
