Nice to see hawfinch at cannock chase

Hello.

Just wondered if anyone else had the pleasure to see the hawfinch at cannock chase over the new year.

I was there friday along with many bird watchers.It seem to be hanging around in the hawthorn bush at the back of the feeding area,came down about 11120am for some feeding,got a quick grab shot on the ground but its not good.

My camera was setup on tripod so when i grabbed it off i never turned the OS back on and with the light being bad shutter speed was way t slow..lol..my fault for rushin

Any way good sighting and glad i braved the weather..it was COLD..

Also strange thing happened to as i heard that plane crash going in not far away..spooky to hear that..sounded awful.

Hi Gary,we saw a Hawfinch locally on Saturday,an amazing sight and a lifer for me!

Well worth standing out in the cold for though!!

I'm envious Ruth - I used to live in Cheshire and never saw Hawfinch in the county despite plenty of tries! There seem to be a lot around this year though, with a few records not far from me in Somerset.

We were lucky in that this one turned up in a nearby country park and perched high up in a tree in full view to all!

Keep a look out Pam there are a lot about at the moment!

Hey Gary.

Got to see the Hawfinch on New Years Day. Quite funny as I drove all the way to the Lake District a few weeks ago,just to see Hawfinch, and dipped.

The one at the Chase certainly wasn't shy. There's been one or two others spotted around Staffs in the last few days as well.

dont remember the car but i must say i dont do car spotting,were you there when the bloke started arguing about parking when he parked right in front of the main veiwing area.lol..
