I was just on a thread where starlings had not been seen in the garden for over 30 years.

Just wondering as I had not seen them in my garden for 3 or 4 years but this summer they returned.

Also noticed that the populations at my two large supermarkets went up noticably his summer.

Concidering the last two summer starlings by me seem to have incrased. As anyone else notived this?

We are never short of starlings around here. I do like to watch them, but they cost a fortune as they eat everything in sight.

Agree even the wood pigeons step back when the flock comes down in my garden

I normally see quite a few in my garden in the summer, particularly parents bringing fledglings to feed. I don't see so many in the winter usually, but this winter I've had 20+ most days, sometimes more.

Personally, I like Starlings, they are sometimes referred to as 'Squablings' in our house because they are always arguing over food or water to bathe in. They are really full of character and I could watch their antics for hours. It makes washing-up a pleasure, the window above my kitchen sink overlooks the feeders and bird tables.

Someone near me must be ringing the Starlings as in the summer I often see very young fledglings with rings on.

two feedig at my kitshen window they are striking birds and I do like them but as said before they do eat everything

We haven't had as many Starlings as we usually do. I'm quite fond of them and miss them a bit.

See some fair sized flocks in the vicinity, but they hardly ever come to our feeders. Shame because I rather like them, even if they can be greedy bullies.

Has this always been the case though? i have lived at my home for over 20 years and seen starlings and sparrows declining but last year starlings in particular have increased in myy area...... you watch on birdwatch weekend they all disapear though
