| | Bird ID with sounds at 1am? I noticed quite weird bird sounds between 11 and 1am for the past two nights now. Tonight they started at 11 and are still going now at 01:15.
I've recorded a 30 second clip of the sounds on my mobile and put it on the computer. Any ideas on how I might get you to hear it then ID it?
Some of the weirdest bird sounds I've heard in ages and I'm really curious.
Any help or advice would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Alex |

I think Hedge Witch uploads them to another site and then pastes a link here.
Have a look at this thread. Post #18 Great Tit Singing in December |

So are they quite common? This one doesn't seem to be shutting up |

Sounds like yours is getting ready for the breeding season. |

| | | Re: Bird ID with sounds at 1am? Ah I see.
I heard a fainter 'reply' from another bird earlier on.
So does it only come out at night? |

| | | Re: Bird ID with sounds at 1am? .......and this is the thing I love at Christmas time - the birds seem to 'turn a corner' and begin singing for spring (even tho we haven't had 'winter' Jan Feb yet!) stuff like blackbirds and thrushes begin to sing again and robins start belting out their strong song too - just open your bedroom window at dawn or just before and have a listen - no matter where you live I would guess that most folks will be able to hear some sort of bird song from one of more of our major garden birds: blackbird, thrushes, robin, dunnock and wren at least
Pauline
PS its not just nightime singing - tho it may be more obvious after dark and before dawn - perhaps if there is less traffic letting you hear it better - at this time of year they all begin to sing for longer periods and start earlier in the mornings preparing for the real dawn chorus of spring when they are wanting to attract a mate - declare territory etc.

| | | Re: Bird ID with sounds at 1am? "My" Robin has a wonderfully loud song reserved for the early hours, especially when the weather's a little milder. Its day time version is a more subdued, rambling affair.
I think the louder song forms part of a pre-dawn chorus, because all the other Robins in the neighbourhood are at it when "he" starts. So I guess it's a competitive, territorial thing.
I'm supplying him with extra mealworms at the moment to give him the competitive edge

Have a look at this thread. Post #18 Great Tit Singing in December | I'm not entirely sure this is allowed, but I've when I've converted files to wma I've had no luck uploading to WAB. I'm waiting for technical help. In the meantime, they can be uploaded onto Supload, and downloaded when needed.
