| | | Deleted pictures Seems to me that you are a bit elitest on here. I have submitted several good quality amateur photographs of birds and everyone of them has been deleted, the first time it was my mistake and I understood that they were deleted. On the second attempt I tried to do everything correctly, as in the guidance to posting pictures into the Gallery. Spent a lot of time choosing the right pictures and resizing them. (please let me know if I did anything wrong this time) Thought this was going to be a friendly forum with lot's of information about wild Britain, and I was looking forward to being a part of it in 2009. I will stick with the bird forum from now on.
Merry Christmas to you all.

| | | Re: Deleted pictures Hi Neil,
It's not elitism it's just applying the site standards. I bounced some very nice pictures of yours yesterday because you had titled them with "common name (latin name)" instead of "Common Name - Latin name". It may seem trivial but we do want there to be a common standard applied across all images in the Gallery and if the uploaders don't do it then the Gallery editors have to. I will amend the occasional image but when there's a whole batch to do it's too time consuming.
But they were good pics so if you re-upload with correct titles they will be accepted.

| | | Re: Deleted pictures huh? i thought you could just rename them... seems abit silly to delete them.
i understand its good to have the standard format of titles through the Gallery, but why didn't you just rename them? |

Then I and the other Gallery Editors end up spending our lives editing image titles!

| | | Re: Deleted pictures Most new members find they have some difficulty in posting images, be it correctly sizing an image or correctly naming a species.
I totally agree that there should be standards set regarding the quality of shots and correctly naming species.
Chrysophylax should have simply posted a thread asking for assistance instead of throwing his dummy out of the pram. Oh! well it's his loss.

| | | Re: Deleted pictures I'll second that Dave. It may seem like a trivial thing, but it's not quite the quick-fix it might first appear, and as you say - we're not solving the problem if we 'fix' images which are uploaded incorrectly, as they will continue to be uploaded wrongly. |

| | | Re: Deleted pictures It certainly isn't an elitist site Neil. I've had shots rejected and I've been here for nearly 3 years now. It's just a case of following the rules with care. So come on, have another go and help will be at hand if you need it.

much better that newbies learn the rules, rather then you doing it for them |

| | | Re: Deleted pictures I agree with what's been said.
I've only just started uploading images to the Gallery (thusfar all have been accepted).
It doesn't take too much time to double check the details you have applied for each photo are correct, and taking care that your details are as required ensures that the whole Gallery remains standardised.
There should be no condemnation of the Gallery editors for doing that very task (in their own time, and for no reimbursement) properly.
Plus, if you wish to be able to view your images straight away, or include them straight away in your posts, you can always upload them to the image library, (where these conditions don't apply), first.
Hope that you will accept that this was an error on your part, and that these standards are only be for the good of the site. Look forward to seeing your images when you re-upload.
Regards
Mike. |

| | | Re: Deleted pictures Whilst I agree with the mods re the time-consuming process of renaming images correctly, it is also the case that uploading images, particularly for a new member, is also time-consuming, and very frustrating when they are deleted for whatever reason. I thought a quick e-mail telling the contributor where they have gone wrong would be appropriate (unless one was sent ??)
