| | | Daft nesting sites A couple of Collared Doves recently built a nest on the exposed outside corner of my house guttering. Needless to say, it disintegrated with the first gust of wind.
I also witnessed a pigeon nesting inside a high-voltage electricity transformer - the nest was made of copper wire off-cuts left over from some installation work.
I expected to find roasted pigeon on the ground one day but they managed to fledge a chick sucessfully.
Anyone have any stories or pictures of odd nest sites? |

| | | Re: Daft nesting sites We have a Ford Explorer - a 4-wheel drive with the spare wheel underneath the car.
One year a little wren started to build a nest inside the spare wheel! I was watching her hopping through the wheel arch with lots of nest building material. We had to stop her, otherwise every now and then her whole nest would disappear when we decided to take the car out. We could not keep the car off the road for the whole incubation period.

| | | Re: Daft nesting sites We had a wren's nest appear in one of a pair of dutch clogs which we had hanging up against our garden fence, as a decorative feature. Perhaps this wasn't such a daft place, it would have been quite snug and probably waterproof, but in any event the female didn't choose this site ( I believe the male bird builds around eight prospective nests. The female then decides upon the 'winner', which I've always thought is very unfair on the male!) | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
