| | | Spectacular starlings Have been out this afternoon to a location near Cheltenham where thousands & thousands of starlings gather just before 4pm & perform their amazing acrobatic antics.
It's the first time I've seen this in the wild (only seen on tv before) & I have to say it is truly spectacular. I recommend it to everyone!!

When I was a child I can remember seeing such sights round here,especially over the farmland! It was mesmorising to see this "cloud" approach,then change shape before they settled in the trees to roost.
Alas most of the trees they used disappeared over a few years,whether by land clearance or disease(were quite a few Elms that succumbed to Dutch Elm disease).Now years later we get perhaps 30-50 starlings where once there were many more flying around
