I believe they are... Anatidae > Anas platyrhynchos (A. platyrhynchos) - Mallard
It looks as though they are 'manky', domesticated types. Was this taken a few months back? I assume it was - bright shiny heads and curled rear feathers = breeding plumage.

Jason  | Why do you assume this was taken a few months back? Ducks are at their best at this time of year when they are in their full plumage (except Ruddy Duck) as they usually pair up in the winter. A few months back they would be in manky eclipse plumage. These are more likely to have been taken recently!
You're right- these are drake domestic type Mallards. |

| | | Re: Duck ID Please You're right Aeshna - I assume. I thought that during the spring/summer the adults are in their pretty breeding colours. The manky eclipse comes between summer and the onset of winter, doesn't it?
Presumably the males are brighter during the spring/summer, then they go through the eclipse and emerge with quieter colours for the winter period?? |

Yes you are correct I took these last week at my local park. I have never seen them there before. Hum and I thought I had found something interesting  well they are interesting to me I guess as I have learnt something today.
