| | | Daily Feeding I was wondering, seeing that we all feed our birds daily (if not, why not?) , how many birds, and what kind visit your feeding stations on a daily basis?
Up here in North of mainland Shetland, my usual suspects are,
on average.....up to 75 Rock Doves
50 Starlings
50/60 House sparrows
6 Blackbirds
3 Wrens
then any visitors. This lot all feed at the same time, from first light for about an hour, then sporadically, but mainly starlings and Sparrows throught the day. I feed best quality seed on bird table and over large area of lawn, plus peanuts and fat balls, it costs a fortune, but their worth it, i just don't feed my two daughters any more
ps, i forgot my two almost pet Herring Gulls, who tap on the kitchen window for a piece of wholemeal bread. |

| | | Re: Daily Feeding Hi,how nice to have Rock doves.....i'll swap you for my Woodpigeons!!! lol!
At the moment I'm getting mainly Goldfinches and Starlings but also Coal,Blue,Great Tit,Chaffinch,Greenfinch,Woodpigeons (too many!) as well as Robin,Dunnock,Wren,Blackbird and Song Thrush.
I'm on the look out for Blackcap ....nothing yet!
Since my sons have left home the birds are doing rather well on left overs.......there never used to be any!!!! |

| | | Re: Daily Feeding We're on the edge of woodland, so mostly have tits. Blue, great, coal, and marsh (and/or willow?) tits, chaffinches, and robins, are all more or less permanently around our feeders at the moment, while house sparrows, greenfinches, blackbirds and dunnocks appear slightly less often, but still daily. Not sure how to count most of these, though, as I can't tell many individuals apart. |

| | | Re: Daily Feeding We have 15 to 30 starlings at any given time, sparrows, goldfinches, greenfinches, collared doves, magpies, blue tits, wren, dunnocks, resident robin and blackbirds, great tits and just recently, a jay who has discovered the monkey nuts! Oh, and herring gulls that swoop over the garden but never actually land | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
