Water Rail

Saw my first Water Rail today
Try as i might, I couldn't get a decent photo of it
It was skulking around the undergrowth a local reserve, and the light was poor
I notice that there aren't a lot of photo's of these on the forum

I know it's nothing special, but it was to me, being my first sighting, and even more so that i was able to id it
Hoping that i may see it tomorrow, for another photo shoot

It is special, Gary. They are famed for being quite elusive. I think they're often heard before being seen, too.

I remember my first Water Rail, I must have been watching it on and off for about half an hour before I realised it wasn't a juvenile Moorhen as there were plenty of them about.

Great birds aren't they I have some pictures (a bit blurred unfortunately) that I took of a water rail at the WWT Arundel, I'll post one or two when I have more time. I also got a few shots of one at Pulborough Brooks but he was mainly hidden by reeds.

WWT Arundel, is exactly where i saw this one
Was it recent, when you saw yours?
We may have possibly have seen each other there

Small world I just looked at the pictures and they were taken in March of this year.

I haven't been to Arundel for a few months now, I'm due a visit soon. I'm a WWT member but the only other place I've been to of their's is the London Wetland Centre. I'd love to get up to Martin Mere.

I am also a member, and visit WWT Arundel every week
Haven't had the chance to visit any of the other WWT sites
I do go to Pulborough Brooks, now and then
