Need Kestrel Rescue help

Hi

just wanted quick advice really, brother has just picked up kestrel, she seems exhausted, there was a male nearby on the ground screeching at her, but she was near a road and not attempting to fly. She has some blood by her beak, is very wet at the moment. Do I contact the nearest rescue centre and take her or wait and see if she recovers, try letting her back out. The male has remained on a telegraph pole nearby?

Will wait ten mins for reply and look up number for rescue centre.....

I would put her back where brother found her and watch to see what happens, she may have stunned herself given a break she may then be okay, if not I would then try a rescue place and take her there. let us know how things go please. sheila

She has come around a bit now, rescue centre number engaged at the mo, have her in carry cage with towel over so going to try as you say, thanks for response

Its a pity theres no one else on WAB at the moment that would be able to help you, im hoping she has stunned herself and will be okay within hour or 2, we sometimes gets birds that fly into our larger patio glass doors ,without lasting injury they fly off hope for the same in your case. sheila

Thanks so much for the quick response earlier Sheila and to everyone else who responded.

We really didn't want to stress her out anymore than necessary.We did as you suggested while trying to contact the rescue centre. She seemed to come round, so took her to a lawned area on the back. She had dried a bit and came out and walked around steadily quite unperturbed, however when she tried to fly she had another crash landing so we drove her to the rescue centre.

The good news is she has nothing broken, she had a bloodied beak on one side and a swollen ear. They checked her thoroughly and otherwise she is in very good health , in fact very well fed! She was well enough to nip the staff member when she checked her mouth!

Anyhow, she will be observed for 24-48 hours, then if all's well they will bring her back to the nature reserve across the road I will contact them to see how it go's.

Thanks again all, will keep the numbers for future reference but hope not to need them...

She was a real little beauty
We had quite a discussion between us as to what might have happened, and why the male was there initially too, my brother said it was quite bizarre, how they were shouting at each other, the male flew off but stayed around to observe ....

Anyhow, fingers crossed she will be fine now and she's with people who know a great deal more than me!
