| | | Wildfowl ID please I took this photo some time ago, and cannot identify this duck, having looked through various books. I am sure like the photo, it is not rare or anything but it would be nice to work out what it is. |

| | | Re: Wildfowl ID please Hi Passer ...
Judging purely by the head shape / colour .. and the yellow eye, I'd say it was some sort of Tufted Duck hybrid ...
The stance would suggest an "input" of Mallard ...
Bye for now ..

Kev .. | There's no Mallard in that! I think the stance is because the bird is a little tense/ alarmed + possibly about to take flight.
No hybrid- just a straight forward female tufted Duck. |

| | | Re: Wildfowl ID please Tufted duck - thanks to everyone who ID'd it. I think the view of the Tufted duck out of the water looking at the front was the problem that I had in identifying it myself. As far as I can see most images are of the bird in the water . As soon as I looked through the Gallery at the images of the bird where I could see the front that is normally submerged it is obvious.... | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
