First Brambling

Hi Folks
Just had the first brambling in the garden since last year, a female,
Got some pics of it but they are rather poor quality having been shot through the kitchen window at full zoom, she was feeding on the peanuts when all the Goldfinches were in the garden, when the goldfinches took off, they rose into te air and joined about 20 starlings, circled with them and flew off with them, Iv'e never seen that before!

My first Brambling of the winter 5 with a party of Chaffinches and Tits working their way through Silver Birches behind house.

I saw my first of the winter on Sunday with a couple of Greenfinches in a local park.

I'm hoping to see some this year.
I am in the midlands though, so what chance of them visiting me?

I'm trying to figure out what direction they'll be coming from and wether they'll stop off on their trip or settled down for the winter in the UK....?

Nice spot duncan,
There not that common, I saw my last one two winters ago at meresands wood, there always nice to see and really well marked.
I may be wrong but i think they come over here from scandinavia and only in winter. Its always worth checking out flocks of chaffinch for the odd one or two.
