| | Owl or Tree I was given this yesterday from the 'Mail On Sunday' from 26th October. Thought WAB members would love to see it.. so here is the link The Wider View: Is it a bird... or a tree? | Mail Online

| | | Re: Owl or Tree All the Scops Owls are notoriously difficult to see despite their distinctive calls. I have managed to see Eurasian, African, Oriental and White-faced Scops Owls, mostly thanks to other people's knowledge.

| | | Re: Owl or Tree Excellent camouflage! Had a similar encounter on Sunday. Was walking with Terry a keen bird watcher who suddenly stopped and focussed his bins on a tree 100 metres away or so.
He passed the binoculars to me and told me to look on the 3rd bough down and look towards where it meets the trunk.Well I looked and looked couldnt see a thing, when all of a sudden a beak opened!
It was a little owl side on to us snug against the tree, perfectly camouflaged till it moved!!Needless to say it then flew off,but i will definitely be scouring the trees in that area in future

Tracey | I was in the Gambia a couple of years ago with a guide trying to show me one in a tree just ahead, but I just could not see it through the foliage at all till it moved. And it was only around 10yds away. Amazing camouflage. |
