Could be a good winter for Waxwings. There are currently at least 32 in Norfolk.

Yes Adam,
I for one hope so they are one of my favourite birds and are being reported in good numbers from Shetland to Norfolk ....

I can remember many years ago before I got into photography a flock of them coming into the garden and eating the Cotoneaster berries. Bet that doesn't happen again

Do Waxwings come in as far as London? I hope so...
From RBA: Waxwings continue to arrive with 599 logged from 16 counties including 220 in Highland, 93 in Lothian, 84 in Moray and 42 in Norfolk.
...so, pretty much a Northern range at the moment. I take it that as the temperatures continue to go down and Winter progresses, more will move down South??

I know rlchew has taken shots of them in a supermarket carpark in Basildon, Essex, before, I believe, so that's not so far from London. I would love to see them.

A few years back (maybe 4 years ago?) in a big Waxwing invasion there was a large flock of Waxwings feasting on Cotoneaster berries in a square within spitting distance of the Post Office Tower.
In good years at least a few are seen in the London area- check overground stations where there are lots of ornamental berried shrubs, supermarket car parks, etc. They are tame birds + unbothered by people . Basically they will turn up anywhere + often not in a typical birding place. My last London birds were 6 feeding in Sorbus in a busy Putney high street about 3 years ago. | | | |
