| | | Best wild bird food? Hi,
Wondered if I could use some of your expertise? We have a few tonnes of golden linseed that we grew this year and are wondering whether to sell it direct as bird seed. Finches and other small birds seem to love it in the field, just would like to know whether to sell it on its own or what best to mix it with?
Any replies would be really interesting.
Thanks,
Ed |

I personally think it's worth selling in 25kg bags on ebay or something for people to mix in with their sunflower, peanuts and for the making of lard balls etc.. |

Dont take this the wrong way please but im curious why would a farmer grow tonnes of a crop if they didnt already have an idea or a market for the crop?
Was it grown for some other reason and this is the residue?...

Just to clarify, the linseed was grown under a contract to supply 40tonnes for the human seed market - health food shops etc. But we harvested around 43.5 tonnes, so some left over to trial a new market with. You can rarely judge linseed yield +/- 10%. The merchant will take the excess, but no obligation from either side.
thanks,
