Dead branch

I took a walk around the woods, found a dead branch, drilled a few holes around it and filled them with peanuts. It has taken about ten days but now it's working really well.
I have two of these chaps visiting every day.

thats a great idea had a spotted using my peanut feeder a week ago but i have a large dead branch in garden think ill try the same and then hang it up

I did that last year but no Woodpecker as yet, plenty of tits, robins and starlings though

That's a good idea, I imagine the GSW likes it that way as it's similar to it's regular feeding habits of pecking at insects in woodbark.

what a great idea and a georgous bird - I love woodpeckers - the way they scurry up the side of trees make me laugh.

I'll be hunting for a suitable branch at the weekend and try the same thing - someone on here mentioned peanut butter as a favourite so I'm going to give that a go.

Beware the salt content of peanut butter, not good for birds.....

Also try not to take dead wood from the wild if its already being used as a home by things.
