| | Common Gull?? Hello!
Spent some time taking advantage of a break in the weather yesterday to walk around Roath Park in Cardiff. Loads of birds, and not a lot of people - my favorite setting! Not really anything new that I noticed, and normally I don't notice seagulls, but this one caught my eye. I'm not at all familiar with seagulls, particularly those outside of full adult plumage, so I'm having a real tough time trying ID'ing this one. I think it looks like all of them LOL . So I wanted someone more familiar with gulls to have a go at it.
Thanks in advance! |

| | | Re: Common Gull?? Hello Dae I am torn between the Lesser Black-Backed and the Common Gull, both are I believe 1st year juveniles,if I was to take a geuss I would go with the Common Gull just something that dont seem right for the Lbb.
No doubt someone will help to confirm

| | | Re: Common Gull?? Hi,
This may be a juvenile Ring-billed Gull, Larus delawarensis in my opinion - the black marking on the bill just seems too broad for the band that a Common develops over the winter, together with a generally less placid facial appearance of a Common. As well as that, to me it has a more Herring gull-like body, too.
Compare your photo to this, by chunkychambers from the Gallery...
Someone else will confirm - this is just my take on it!!

| | | Re: Common Gull?? Well I assumed ID'ing this fellow would be tough, looks like my fears were confirmed
I'm hesitant to think ring-billed gull, simply as it doesn't seem to be as likely as a LBB or common gull - but that'd be very nice indeed if it were true!
So seems LBB is the winning contender at the moment? |

| | | Re: Common Gull?? LOL Ok I cry mercy. I suppose this is one of those ones that I'll never really be able to ID with confidence. Thanks everyone for having a look! |

| | | Re: Common Gull?? Well this one sounds very likely, as they were the only other gull besides black-headed gulls that were at the park. I'm happy to go with that one | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
