| | | Autumnal Tides I am after some information and i know this is the very place to ask , does anyone know when the Autumnal high tide at Parkgate on the Dee estuary is this year and i would like to know if anyone else in other parts of the country have this phenomenon? i am sure you probably do but i would like to hear about these other places and if anybody would like to recommend their own local patch. I am very interested in attending the Parkgate event even if a day off work is needed

| | | Re: Autumnal Tides I'm not too sure what you mean by the autumnal high tide, Frank. Are you thinking about very high spring tides at this time of year, or is it a specific phenomenon like the Severn Bore? Suggest that you look at this website where you should be able to find out about tides all over the UK... http://www.ukho.gov.uk/ |

| | | Re: Autumnal Tides There are two very high tides at the spring and the autumn equinox and usually last for two or three days, i have read this on the local website for the wirral RSPB but they don't give any specific dates and i just wondered if anyone had information on this or knew where i could find out

Frank | Well according to the information on the Dee estuary- Dee Estuary English Shore
you need a tide of over 9.8m to cover the marsh.
There is then a link to the Tide Tables at Liverpool with the estimated heights and it says that Parkgate times are about 20mins later. Tidal predictions for Liverpool
Hope this helps but I think you may have missed it this month as the big one was at 12.30am (plus 20mins) this morning. |

| | | Re: Autumnal Tides Don't give up quite so easily
There's a reasonably high tide tomorrow at 1.30pm (BST plus 20mins) at 9.61meters and again on Saturday 1.12pm (BST plus 20mins) at 9.37 meters.
They may be high enough to push some of the birds close to the shore but unfortunately the really high ones all seem to have happened in the middle of the night.
It then doesn't get high again until the full moon next month on the 13th November.
Does look like a wonderful birding opportunity though |
