| | | Bird ID please Hi, I saw a little bird among the fallen leaves that had collected on a river, I'm not brilliant on birds, but everything tells me it's a Wagtail, but it wasn't wagging it tail, and the pale creamy orange of it's breast seems unusual to me, as I thought they were more yellow and also another one that was hiding in a large bush near a lake, any ideas would be gratefully accepted Thank you
Sorry about the quality, they are heavily cropped

| | Re: Bird ID please the wagtail is a grey wagtail, probable juvenile, which may explain some stillness rather than wagging (although they dont wag all the time - its as if they are thinking for a minute!)- the yellow is not as fully developed in juveniles. There are a number of variants for head colour, but I am sure this is right, plus your habitat is so right for them too. Was it near cover? Bridge, overhang etc - they like to nest in such places and a juvenile may still hang around that site.
Second bird pic is not as clear, but looks like a warbler - from the eye ring, overall feel, dullness and shortish tail and lack of outstanding features to see I think it might be chiffchaff.
Nice longtail I agree !
Hope this helps

Ken | Hi Ken , Based my ID on the grey head and very prominent white eye rings which led me to Juv Goldcrest |

| | | Re: Bird ID please Aww, thank you all for your quick replies, it didn't occure to me that the first bird may be a juvenille, but it does make sense
diggleken - yes it was near cover, there is plenty around there and much of it overhanging the river, and a smallish bridge which I took the picture from

| | | Re: Bird ID please Hi Morph - I see where you are coming from and agree thats a very good possibility, and I suspect I'm wrong! - more size and poss wing detail would help!
Briar rose - can you remember how big this bird was? Wren, robin or blackbird are good size comparisons to use.
cheers

Hi Ken, The Wagtail was more Robin than Wren or Blackbird, but probably a bit slimmer and smaller than a Robin. The other one more Wren than anything, I've added another couple of pic of it, but they are all I have, and they are not very clear.
Where I saw the Wagtail (taken in the summer)
The other bird
