| | | possible injured pigeon I've come home from work to find a very wet looking Wood Pigeon sat at the bottom of my neighbour's drive. Apparently it has been there most of the day. It can stand OK but generally looks sorry for itself and doesn't seem to have moved about much at all. Anyone got any advice as to what, if anything, I should do? I suspect it may be a juvenile.

| | | Re: possible injured pigeon Jeez, guys I was after some sensible advice. I'm genuinely quite worried about this bird. It's stood out in pouring rain, but I don't know whether me going and trying to pick it up or take a closer look is the right thing to do.

however if you want to keep it alive,go look at it, if its okay it will fly off, if its a baby but not injured leave it alone the parents will return, if its an injured adult take it to a wildlife hospital - check yellow pages for your nearest one.
If you handle it wear gloves - pigeons carry thirty seven diseases comunicable to man so be careful, dont bring it into food preparation areas, and disinfect any area it touches.

What a stupid thing to say.In fact, the 2 responses are pathetic.
Someone posts on a wildlife forum asking advice about a LIVING CREATURE and he gets responses like that? Pigeons get bad press, yet they are living, feeling beings.
Anyway, malcolm if i were you, I would leave it be for 24 hours, leaving some water and food within reach.Reassess the situation then. If its a youngster, parents may be nearby. |

| | | Re: possible injured pigeon Pigeons are prone to flying into things sue. Last summer I heard an almighty crash. A wood pigeon crashed into a neighbours garage door. He looked hurt, so I put him into a cardboard box and took him to the vets.
My vet rang me later to say that an xray revealed he had fractured his skull and so he put it down.
I would definitely approach it to see what it does and then take it from there. A local Wildlife charity might be interested. |

further jonny and i are entitled to our views and i do not appreciate your tone - if you had taken the time to look arround before posting you would have seen that this kind of banter is very common on the forum.
your post on the other hand is very close to an unacceptable personal attack and it is only because you are new that i am not reporting it to the moderators
