| | | A moth Bird? Whilst I type this I am running a moth Trap until Midnight. Just over 5 minutes ago (11:20pm) I had a bit of a shock. I was peering into the trap to look at a moth that had dropped into it when this almighty flutter went wizzing passed my ears, crashed into the foliage at the side of our fencing (2feet away from my face), squeaked then took off again flying off into the night.
What was it? Well it was a Starling. What on earth was that doing flying around at this time of night?

| | | Re: A moth Bird? It had probably been disturbed from its roost - after all, it wasn't a very good night flier, was it?! In fact, quite a lot of daytime birds migrate at night but I think you can rule that out in this instance. |

| | | Re: A moth Bird? Perhaps it had learnt that the bright light meant lots of moths, and was flying in to investigate, not expecting to see you there and got a shock?

| | | Re: A moth Bird? Was it definately a bird? Could it have been a bat? I know they can give a squeak audible to the human ear. EDIT. Sorry I totally missed the bit about it being a Starling in the original post. The heatwave may have gone but it's still 'Brainf*arts Ahoy!' for me in Somerset. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
