sparrow hawk

hi

i've mentioned this on a different thread, but it was so great it deserves its own

a few days ago, i saw this sparrow hawk in the next-door neighbor's garden with a freshly killed blackbird.
it sat there for 20 minutes eating it and being harassed by magpies, so we stood there watching it and i got these photos

Sparrow Hawk in the garden - where are you???. The best I get is a Greenfinch or a Dunnock or a Magpie or a Robin. You are so lucky!!

I saw one the other day harrassing a pigeon in the staff carpark here at work. If I wasn't wearing my white anti-static coat at the time I may have got a better look at it. I got within 5 m though - and that was just walking past.

A fantastic bird to see close up.
