| | Ring-necked Parakeets Good Afternoon WAB'ers!!
Does anyone know the months that Ring-necked Parakeets breed between?
I saw this pair earlier today, the lower one looking into the tree hole, bottom right.
They stayed on location for a while.
Take care,
Jason |

| | | Re: Ring-necked Parakeets The RSPB site mentions breeding from January until June. Presumably that is the season for the UK.
I also found this document http://www.biology.ucok.edu/Personal...ler/thesis.pdf which mentions late February to May in Thanet.
Perhaps they were house-hunting? |

Though they're aliens, it'd be interesting to see them breeding.
I'll keep you posted. |

Jim | They do breed early in the year but there isn't too much evidence as yet that they are having a negative impact on native hole nesters, though there are implications this could happen.
In Richmond Park where there are large numbers of these birds, there has been a bird monitoring scheme for nearly a decade + the number of RN Parakeets has increased considerably, yet none of the other hole nesters have declined + some have increased. |

Though obviously as the decline is national the parakeets are probably the last of their problems! |

I'm not saying the RNP are having no effect, just that so far the scientific evidence doesn't seem to be there, just hypothesis. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
