We went along to Keyhaven yesterday and spotted this gull on the waters edge having trouble with an eel he had just caught - trying to swallow it head first.....not surprising as it is quite big. He managed to keep hold of it and dragged it into the water. I was following him (with the camera) hoping he would bring it back to the edge so i could get a shot. Quite unexpected (for me anyway) he decided to fly away with it and i was caught on the hop, no Al servo, multiple shot etc and here-'s the result. Is it usual for them to go after an eel?

I think Great Black-backed gulls, likeothers, will go for whatever they can catch.
It makes an interesting photo.

That's a great photograph. I love action shots and I also never imagined a Gull taking on an eel.

Also if I may add the eel looks more like a sea lamprey. Nice shot. |
